Sanjeevan remanded for 21 days under Poca

KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysian Crime Watch Task Force (MyWatch) chairman Datuk R. Sri Sanjeevan was remanded for 21 days yesterday under the Prevention of Crime Act 1959 (Poca). His lawyer, S. Prakash, said Magistrate Ahmad Solihin Abd Wahid granted an application by police to remand his client until July 31. He said he had objected to the remand application as he believed it did not fall under Poca. Yesterday, Bukit Aman D7 principal assistant director, SAC Roslee Chik had said that Sanjeevan had been detained under Section 3 (1) of Poca for alleged criminal intimidation and extortion. On June 22, Sanjeevan and his driver, an Indian national, were detained under Section 506, and Sections 384 and 385 of the Penal Code near the Nilai Toll Plaza, Seremban, for alleged criminal intimidation and extortion. The MyWatch chairman was arrested following a police report lodged by a person who has not been identified alleging that Sanjeevan had threatened to slander him through a Facebook site. — Bernama
