KUALA LUMPUR — A team of police officers from a specially formed unit to investigate the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal raided former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s private residence in Taman Duta here last night.
Raids were also conducted at two units in the exclusive Pavilion Tower condominium linked to Najib’s family.
In the Taman Duta raid, the team arrived in more than 10 vehicles.
“The investigators are familiar with previous investigations done to probe 1MDB.
“They took several documents from the condo units,” the source told Malay Mail.
The source however said its too early to say if Najib or his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor will be taken in for questioning.
At 8.30pm, the police vehicles were seen leaving the Taman Duta bungalow.
Najib’s lawyer Hasnal Rezua Merican was seen entering the compound of the former PM’s residence just after 11pm.
Najib and Rosmah have been barred from leaving the country on suspicion of crimes.
Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad previously said he expects to charge Najib over the 1MDB scandal soon.
