MALAYSIAN audiences are in for a surprise in Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) newest movie, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which opens today in cinemas nationwide.
Local fans would be pleased to know legendary actress Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh makes a cameo in the film’s post-credit scenes.
Yeoh, who is no stranger to Hollywood having acted in films such as Memoirs of a Geisha and The Lady, plays the female Starhawk named Aleta Ogord, according to CNET.
Aleta is the adopted sister of the male Starhawk, Stakar Ogord, played by Sylvester Stallone.
Both are members of the original Guardians of the Galaxy, of which Yondu Udonta, played by Michael Rooker, is also a member of in the comics.
Although Yeoh’s character only makes a short appearance, it is hinted that her character along with other cameo roles ― including Ving Rhames and Miley Cyrus ― will have a bigger part in future instalments of the franchise.
The long-awaited encore of 2014’s surprise hit Guardians of the Galaxy continues the screwball adventures of the first film’s spacefaring misfits as the jolly, B-movie vibe carries them to the outer reaches of the cosmos.
The story picks up with the squabbling Guardians fighting to keep their surrogate family together as Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) has daddy issues with a swaggering demigod who happens to be a living planet known as Ego (Kurt Russell).
Guardians 2 is expected to enjoy one of the biggest opening weekends ever with critics agreed that its sharp one-liners make it ― like its predecessor ― a cut above the average superhero fare. ― Agencies
