KUALA LUMPUR — In recognising the sterling efforts of small and medium enterprises (SME) in the country’s economy, 55 companies won awards at the SME and Entrepreneurship Business Award, Malaysia edition 2017 (SEBAM 2017) in various categories on Wednesday.
The award, held at the JW Marriott hotel, was organised by Yayasan Usahawan Malaysia (MyPreneurship) in collaboration with Hitman Solutions which saw 10 entrepreneurs and 45 companies bagging awards for their contribution to the SME segment.
MyPreneurship founder Nitesh Malani said SEBAM 2017 aims to recognise the contributions of entrepreneurs and their efforts to drive the Malaysian business landscape and pave the way to tomorrow’s growth and innovation.
“We hope to tap into the mindset of these model entrepreneurs, and hope to share their depth of experience and exposure on critical success factors for growth and sustainability,” Nitesh said.
The award, which received over 400 submissions, was not an easy task for the team at SEBAM 2017 without the help of the award’s advisory board which comprises of key personalities known for their entrepreneurship and business acumen.
Board members includes Datuk A.T Kumararajah of SEED in the Prime Minister’s Office; Roen Cian Nagapan, the co-founder of Liter of Light; Zharif Affandi, founder of Gemilang Usahawan; and Zyro Wong, a master coach and celebrity speaker.
Among the winners were Tan Sri Tony Fernandes for the lifetime achievement award; Patrick Grove for entrepreneur of the year; and Neelofa for the celebrity entrepreneur of the year.
SMEs that bagged awards include Pointray Malaysia Sdn Bhd for the most enterprising company; Talk Focus Sdn Bhd for management transformation; and AXG Industries Sdn Bhd.
