IT has always been a joy to write about Malaysia’s hottest sports personality Datuk Nicol David, 32, who has been listed as 17th, out of 20 greatest athletes in the world right now by UK’s The Telegraph.
The World International Squash Players Association (Wispa), has been persistent in requesting squash to be listed as an Olympic sport in the coming years, with Nicol, 8-time world squash champion, leading the charge.
Nicol has been the darling of squash on a global level for her likable personality and her dominance as world’s No 1 for 109 months until September last year.
She is currently ranked at No 3.
Her three gold medals at the World Games and two Commonwealth gold medals solidified her status as a sports icon, bringing honour to Malaysia.
Among the other athletes on The Telegraph’s list are Simone Biles (gymnastics), Cristiano Ronaldo (football), Usain Bolt (athletics), LeBron James (basketball) and Michael Phelps (swimming).
We are proud of you, Nicol, for your outstanding achievement of 80 Wispa titles and being inducted into the World Squash Federation’s Hall of Fame.
You are a definite role model for youngsters in Malaysia and around the globe, not only in squash, but also your academic achievements, due to your perseverance, determination and support from your loving family.
