HL: Bosses bite back

Actor Datuk AC Mizal and his wife are suing a publisher and three others for RM25 million in damages for portraying them as negligent employers. The actor, who is noted for his versatile roles in movies, said a reporter used defamatory words about them in a local Malay daily.

The 44-year-old actor, whose real name is Mizal Zaini, filed the civil claim together with his wife Datin Emylia Rosnaida Abdul Hamid, private Internet radio broadcasting company Peace Yall Sdn Bhd and its CEO.

In the statement of claim, the four plaintiffs said the article had implied that Mizal had debts and that they did not have capability to pay their employees. As a result, they said they suffered losses in terms of reputation, business and entertainment value.

And since the daily was not singing the tunes of Justin Bieber’s Sorry, Mizal and gang decided to call in the lawyers. They are asking for RM15 million in general damages for libel, RM10 million in aggravated damages, costs and a restraining order to stop the defendants from repeating the libellous words against them. Looks like it’s not all that peaceful in the company, y’all!

HL: Malaysia’s own festival drama

The Academy Awards had some controversy this year when #oscarsowhite started trending, referring to the lack of African-American nominees in what is the most prestigious awards for Hollywood.

And now, our very own Malaysian Film Festival has its own share of drama. The million-dollar man himself, film-maker Datuk Yusof Haslam has vowed never to get involved in future Malaysian Film Festivals following accusations of conflict of interest in the nomination process.

Yusof, who is Malaysian Film Producers president, appeared annoyed at the suggestion that his two films were nominated for the upcoming festival due to personal interest.

“I am tired of the various accusations that are being hurled although it is not all true, in fact I do not even know who sits on the jury,” he said at a dialogue to discuss his decision to nominate fan favourites OlaBola and Jagat under the non-Malay category for Best Film, Best Actor and Best Director.

This followed several other thespians such as Afdlin Shauki, who is boycotting the award show, over the category segregation. Can we have a group hug, true to the Malaysian spirit, and be proud of what we all have to offer collectively?

HL: Comparing inches

Another day, another celebrity penis. After Orlando Bloom and Justin Bieber competed for column inches with their … other inches, 50 Cent has followed their lead.

Except this time it’s all a bit weird. In a scene from the latest episode of Power, of which 50 Cent is a producer, the rapper’s character Kanan is seen masturbating.

In an interview with TV Guide prior to the episode, 50 Cent spoke about the fact he was getting it all out on screen, saying: “My penis is going to debut!”

But since the episode aired, he seemed to have changed his mind and called out the show’s writer Courtney Kemp Agboh over the scenes in deleted Instagram posts captured by The Shade Room.

He captioned, “Don’t kiss my cheek, kiss my a$$. This is not funny.”

HL: Just regular girls

Cara Delevingne and Margot Robbie are known to be chummy with Prince Harry. But apparently Delevingne’s relationship with the prince has progressed to “late-night drunk texting” level.

Robbie let slip about her Suicide Squad co-star’s tipsy texts during a recent interview.

“We just talk about regular girl stuff. She is like, ‘I’ve had sex on a plane,’ and I’ll be like, ‘Yeah, but I’ve had it on a jet ski’.

“And she will then blow me out of the water and tell me she ‘drunk texts’ Prince Harry. So I’m just like, ‘Okay, you win’.”

Now that’s a game we want to play too. Robbie herself isn’t a stranger when it comes to texting the cheeky prince either, telling media a few weeks ago, “He’s pretty quick on text actually.”

“He’s friends with Cara [Delevingne]. They’ve known each other for years, and we met through friends.” Squad goals. ‘Nuff said.

HL: Insta-Star of the week

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has slammed his Fast 8 co-stars as unprofessional 'candy asses'.

The actor and wrestler, 44, stars in the next installment of the Fast And Furious action franchise.

He vented his relief that filming for the movie was finally coming to an end in an impassioned

Instagram rant. He said that apart from working with Charlize Theron and Michelle Rodrigiez,

and a great behind the scenes crew, the experience genuinely made his 'blood boil'. He said, “An

incredible hard working crew. My female co-stars are always amazing and I love 'em. My male

co-stars however are a different story. Some conduct themselves as stand up men and true

professionals, while others don't. The ones that don't are too chicken s**t to do anything about

it anyway. Candy asses.” While he left the divas unnamed, we now know that he was referring

to another muscle-man, Vin Diesel! The both of them are producers on the movie and their egos

have collided, allegedly. Well if you think The Rock is eye-candy, hop on to his Instagram

@therock and forget your squabbles with those pesky co-workers.
