KUALA LUMPUR — Nicholas Fung narrowly missed out on a first Asian Tour title as he finished tied for third with overnight leader Scott Barr on 11-under at the Yeangder Tournament Players Championship in Taiwan yesterday.
Spain’s Carlos Pigem won after a playoff with Japan’s Shunya Takeyasu.
The 26-year old Nicholas started the day in third place at nine-under, four shots behind leader Australian Scott Barr.
After the 12th hole he was leading on 13-under with birdies on the first, third, 11th and 12th holes.
But two bogeys on the 15th and 17th holes pegged him back and he ended with a two-under 70 in round 4.
Danny Chia had a better final day as he carded a three-under 69 to finish joint 15 place on eight-under.
This is the last tournament for the men to rack up qualifying points for the Olympics.
Danny is assured of his place on the back of his high world ranking (235) and is at 47 out of 60 spots in the Race to Rio.
Another Malaysian, Gavin Green, is 57th out of 60 golfers who will make the cut on the back of his world ranking
