Kian Meng-Pei Jig fall at final hurdle

KUALA LUMPUR — Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing’s fairytale run at the Taiwan Open came to an end yesterday when they lost 21-18, 21-16 in the final to China’s Zheng Siwei-Chen Qingchen.

The couple who had produced a superb performance in the semifinals to beat Indonesia’s Ricky Widianto-Gloria Emanualle Widjaja, failed to maintain the momentum and lost in 35 minutes at Taipei Arena.

In the men’s singles final, Chou Tien Chen beat Qiao Bin from China 21-18, 21-17 while Taiwan’s world No 2 Tai Tzu Ying upset world No 1 Wang Shixian from China 23-21, 21-6 to win the women’s singles. — Bernama
