Malay Mail: How are you enjoying your transition from pop star to fashion designer?
Mizz Nina: It has been a natural transition. I’ve always loved fashion even from my performing days, although I never thought I would explore it seriously.
I started selling merchandise which slowly turned into a street wear brand and it has evolved from there. I am pleased with the designs I am creating.
While the fashion world is challenging, I am enjoying the experience. Being in Malaysia, Hari Raya is my favourite time to introduce a festive collection, which brings me to working with Zalora for the first time.
What are some of the challenges you have
faced so far?
With fashion, you always have to be on top, know the latest trends and know your customers well. What they love to wear as well as colours and materials they like.
Being new in the industry, every aspect is experimental for me. Sometimes things work out, sometimes they don’t. There are risks involved but I think it’s all worth it when you know there are people who appreciate your designs and buy them. That inspires me to continue what I’m doing.
How would you describe the Sawdaa girl?
She’s independent, strong and modest. She’s not afraid to express herself and she’s all about the beauty of modesty.
What are some key trends to look out for this Raya?
Pop colours are definitely in and I think mix-and-match is going to be trendy. Of course you’ll never go wrong with pastels, especially for Hari Raya.
Will you be wearing something from your collection?
Yes, definitely! I don’t know which piece yet, it depends on my mood.
What’s next for you?
I will be doing a lot of travelling and launching a sporty collection at the end of the year. I’ve have also been busy with my talk show on TV AlHijrah.
